Hi, I’m Moritz 👋

I like building things that are practically useful for people.

• Work and background: I’m a Member of Technical Staff, MLE at Cohere (from June 2025). I previously worked as a Machine Learning Engineer (MLE) at Hugging Face and as a NLP & data science consultant. I was educated as a computational social scientist. • Open Source: I like sharing code, data and educational content. See the Open Source section for some of my contributions.

• PhD: I’ve learned a lot about transfer learning and the intersection between Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computational Social Sciences (CSS) during my PhD. See the PhD section for details on my research.

• Views on the impact of AI: I’m excited about the amazing solutions AI can/will bring to real-world problems. I’m also afraid of the risks AI can/will pose, both in the short- and in the long-term. I think that polarizing views like “doomers vs. accelerationists” fueled by social media and groupthink are unhelpful. Nuanced views are helpful.
